|Prof. Dr. Hassan
||Hassan is professor
and head of the department of acting and directing at the Academy
of Theatrical Arts in Cairo. He has held the same position since
1981 in Kuwait as well. He is not only a specialist in Egyptian
folklore, but is also well-known in the field of folklore of the
Gulf. He was the first person to conduct studies on the folklore
dances of Egypt such as Nubian folklore, Hagallah, folklore from
Port Said and many more. He has also been working in the field of
theatre. He has been several times a director for theatre, musicals,
operettas and operas. He has until now directed more than 72 plays
and over 40 operettas in Egypt.
Hassan was professor at the Academy for Ballet in Cairo, where he
taught ballet direction and national dances. He was also a consultant
for theatre at the Ministry of Information in Kuwait. He was furthermore
the general director of the Um Kalzoum theatre in Cairo, general
supervisor for folklore in the Ministry of Culture, and member of
the High Council for Science and Art in Cairo. In 1967, Prof. Khalil
was awarded a first-class decoration for Science and Art by the
Republic of Egypt.
He has several times
organised the celebrations for national holidays on request by several
Arabian countries. These festivals were organised in huge theatres
or sports stadiums with more than 1000 actors on stage. For this
work, Prof. Khalil has received several honours from the kings and
presidents of these countries.
has experienced first-hand the time of the great Egyptian dancers.
He lived in the neighbourhood of some of these great artistes of
oriental dance such as Nahima Akef, Samia Gamal and Thahia Karioka,
he worked with them like he worked with Nagua Fuad and Suheir Saki
and many other famous dancers
Dietlinde Karkutli invited him in 1986 to come to Germany to teach
oriental dance. Since this time he regularly comes to Europe during
semester vacations to teach and to spread his love of oriental dance
to women dancers from all over the world. He combines an immense
knowledge of fundamental theory and experience of many years, and
is furthermore a very light-hearted teacher.
He is constantly on the lookout for further developments in oriental
dance. He feels a great need to create and develop new ideas. He
has currently created over 120 wonderful choreographies for oriental
